I receive a lot of questions from people asking for the benefits of using an abdominal machine versus doing regular sit ups or crunches. One important benefit is that most abdominal machines can provide users with a safe method for making your abs stronger. These machines are great at relieving other body parts from unnecessary strain & pain while developing the ab muscles. Nevertheless, this benefit does not necessarily mean that your abdominal muscles will appear “ripped” and have a six pack look. If you really think about it, most people who are overweight have muscles, but because their muscles are covered with fat, it’s hard to say that their muscles are “ripped”.
So, with that being said, using ab equipment can definitely make your core abs stronger, but if you want to create “washboard” abs, you need to do a lot more than just work your abdominal muscles. In order to reach that goal, you have to actually burn the fat around your body, and the only way you can do that is with proper dieting and exercise. Although your abdominal region is one of the hardest parts of the body to burn fat around, if you work hard at it, it can be done. Just remember to combine your workouts with not only core ab training, but high energy exercise and healthy eating.

Hello, I like your brief article on Ab Exercise equipment. Lately I’ve been investigating some portable products myself and came across one that was intreaguing and wanted to know if you had any experience with it. The AbMemory (www.abmemory.net) has a small ‘take with you anywhere you go’ type size an seems pretty cheap for what it claims. Let me know if you have used this before. Many thanks.

i own an ab lounge sport but when i use it i just dont feel like my abbs are getting a real workout. when i do sit ups on the floor it strains my muscles much harder to do 100 of them on the floor vs 100 on the ab lounger. which is the faster way to get abs? i’m not a large person, i’m average weight and my body can handle the stress of regular sit ups. what do you recommend?

hunter: if by “getting abs” you mean getting a bulging six pack, then I have a question for you. If you wanted huge biceps, would you do 100 reps with a 5kg weight? No? Didn’t think so.
What you’re doing is training your abs for endurance, not strength… Try adding weights to bring the series down to 5-8 reps. If you don’t have weights, try inclined situps. Works wonders!
